Key West Museums

Key West museums may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you plan your vacation to Key West, but there are actually plenty of them in this historical city. Key West's history is full of pirates and smugglers, ghosts and scoundrels. And Key West's citizens have always had a strong interest in preserving their past and making it come alive again. That's great for the rest of us, who visit and enjoy the variety of Key West museums in the southernmost city!

Curry Mansion Museum

Don't miss your chance to browse through one of the lovely Victorian mansions Key West is famous for. 10A.M. through 5P.M. daily. Adults $5.00/ Children $1.00. 

East Martello Museum

Artifacts and displays of Florida Keys history, Robert The Haunted Doll, junkyard sculptures by Stanley Papio, and more fill this Civil War fort. 
Daily 9:30am-5pm.

Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum

Take a guided tour of  Ernest Hemingway's home, and then leisurely wander the gardens at this Registered National Historic Landmark. Also available for weddings and private parties. This is one of the most popular Key West museums.

Flagler Station

At Flagler's Station, you'll relive the history and legacy of Henry Flagler's Overseas Railroad.

Fort Zachary Taylor State Historic Site

The largest collection of Civil War armaments in the United States is contained in this Civil War fort, and you'll find excellent snorkeling, biking and nature trails, as well. Open daily from 8:00 am to sunset.

Key West Lighthouse & Keepers Quarters Museum

No longer necessary for ensuring the safe passage of ships through the dangerous reefs, the lighthouse and keeper's quarters have been turned into a museum for the fascinating collection of lighthouse artifacts and the maritime history of the Florida Keys. 

Key West Museum of Art & History at the Custom House

A building once visited by pirates and politicians alike, it now houses the exhibitions that document the cultural history of the city of Key West.  

Key West Shipwreck Historeum

For a time, Key West was the richest city in the US.  Relive those days of shipwrecks and recovered treasure, and learn about a city now more rich in history than it ever was in gold. The most visible of Key West museums is located right behind Mallory Square, underneath its own 65-foot tower.

Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society

The museum features exhibits from four ships, including the famous Atocha and its fabulous treasure donated to the museum by the well-known treasure hunter himself, Mel Fisher.
